Boilermaker Weekend!

On Sunday I took part in the 35th annual 15k Boilermaker along with 13,999 other runners. These banners welcome you from many households as you drive around the city.

Thanks Grandma Sheldon for putting us up!
The boys had a great time playing at your house.

Our pre-race meal consisted of tomato pie (it's a Utica thing), pasta, greens and stuffed shells.
There are many monetary prizes awarded to the winners which puts the professionals at the front of the pack.

The great thing about this race is the support from the crowds. They come out in full force with ice, water, popsicles and sprinklers. There are also many bands and radio stations playing music along the way.

This is the first place finisher Tilahun Regassa coming in at 43:01. That is less than a 5 minute mile for 9 miles.
Amazing!
This is where everyone is running to.
The post race party!

It is always held here.

This is the Once Again Nut Butter team I ran for.

Once Again Nut Butter donated all the peanut butter for the sandwiches at the post race party. With 14,000 runners that is alot of peanut butter! In your bag you received a sandwich, banana and baked Lays chips. There was also lot's of water available and the oranges never tasted so good.

This is what the crowd looks like at the party.
Pretty crazy huh?

What have all the runner's been waiting for?
Beer!

Jen

That race looks so intense -- you should be proud of yourself. Fantastic pictures as they make you feel part of the moment.
