Boilermaker Weekend!

On Sunday I took part in the 35th annual 15k Boilermaker along with 13,999 other runners. These banners welcome you from many households as you drive around the city.

Thanks Grandma Sheldon for putting us up!
The boys had a great time playing at your house.

Our pre-race meal consisted of tomato pie (it's a Utica thing), pasta, greens and stuffed shells.
There are many monetary prizes awarded to the winners which puts the professionals at the front of the pack.

The great thing about this race is the support from the crowds. They come out in full force with ice, water, popsicles and sprinklers. There are also many bands and radio stations playing music along the way.

This is the first place finisher Tilahun Regassa coming in at 43:01. That is less than a 5 minute mile for 9 miles.
Amazing!
This is where everyone is running to.
The post race party!

It is always held here.

This is the Once Again Nut Butter team I ran for.

Once Again Nut Butter donated all the peanut butter for the sandwiches at the post race party. With 14,000 runners that is alot of peanut butter! In your bag you received a sandwich, banana and baked Lays chips. There was also lot's of water available and the oranges never tasted so good.

This is what the crowd looks like at the party.
Pretty crazy huh?

What have all the runner's been waiting for?
Beer!

Race Day!

Tonight I have my first official race of the season! I get to wear my new running shoes that I purchased about a month ago. I can't say enough about the store where we buy our shoes. There customer service is out of this world and not to mention their prices are awesome. Sometimes my hubby can walk out of the store with two pairs of running shoes for the price of one! I didn't get as lucky this time but aren't they pretty?
We also scored a running hat for $5.
I think my hubby was a little tired of me borrowing his this winter.

I have become addicted to listening to music while I run.
Here is a little of what I will be listening to this evening during my 5K:

"If today was your last day" - Knickelback (my absolute favorite)
"Let's go" - feat, Ne-yo
"Cruel Summer" - Bananarama
"Beautiful" and "Right Now" - Akon
"Moves like Jagger" - Maroon 5
"Love is a Battlefield" - Pat Benatar
"Somebody I used to Know" - Gotye

I will be running along side teacher's from my children's school. What I love about this race is that proceeds  are donated to the American Red Cross. Well, I think it's time for me to sign off and go for a run.

My Goal Accomplished!

I have always been a goal and list person. When I look back on my day I often judge my success or failure based on what I have accomplished. In the early Spring I set a goal to do my first Sprint Triathlon along with several friends. It would be a first for all of us. The photo below are the lovely ladies who took on this challenge with me.

On the left is Stephanie and she is the sole veteran triathlete of the group. Then there is myself, Kim and Janna.

Here I am waiting for my age group of swimmers to start. The waves were very big going out and the buoys seemed much farther out than I thought they should be.

Trying not to look nervous for the swim since it is not my strong suit.
If I can just make it out of the water......

Whew! Two events down and one to go.

Happy to see my friends and family cheering us on.

Had to stop and give my Luke a kiss.

Here are the kiddo's cheering us on. They were so awesome.

All smiles at the end because we did it!

Thank you to my hubby who put our training plan together and who has been so supportive and helpful. We could not have done it without you.
Love,
Jen

You Can Do It!

Last week our family headed to this town for some relaxation and racing!

My hubby and his friends would cover 140. 6 miles in 17 hours or less!

But first the vacation part.

Anywhere you look there are just breathtaking views of the mountains. 46 peaks to climb in all.

The boys loved the beach and made both small sand castles.....

and large. Dad helped too!

These paddle boards looked like so much fun! I definitely want to try this on our next trip.

No visit is complete without a walk down Main Street.

We couldn't resist a little taste testing at the candy store.

And now for the racing....

First a 2.4 mile swim...

next a 112 mile bike...Go Ray, Go!

and last....a 26.2 mile run!

Finally.....the finish!
We are so proud of you honey.

Thank you to my mom and dad who watched the kid's for us the weekend of the race!

Beauty on the run!

I have been an avid runner and biker for years. Needless to say, I spend alot of time on the roads that surround the lake training. The beauty is what keeps me going when my workouts get tough and I am so thankful to live in such a beautiful place. Two years ago they re-paved the road we live on and the following photos are what was left behind:

They are really cool aren't they?

These make me smile every time I see them on a run.

Can you believe that today on my way home they were painting over these beautiful marks left by nature? My heart sank as I realized that some of the daily beauty I see would be erased!!! At least I have the photos to remind me and of course the lake will still be there to help me through those tough workouts.
